Baseball To Hold 'Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day'

On Sunday, April 13, the Holy Cross baseball program will host its second annual "Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day" at Fitton Field during its game versus Navy at 12 p.m. The game, sponsored by Holy Cross Cures for Kids and in conjunction with Sherry's House in Worcester, Mass., will feature a ceremonial first pitch thrown out by Jacob Hooker, a seven-year old boy who was diagnosed with a form of leukemia at age three.

Jacob was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in January of 2009. His journey lasted over three and a half years where he spent a majority of his time in and out of the hospital. Jacob is now a strong and healthy seven-year old boy in remission. He just ended his first basketball season and will begin baseball in the next few weeks. Sherry's house played a huge role in supporting Jacob through his long and hard journey of leukemia, and still is an important part of his life!
