‘Nativity School celebrates 10 years’

Worcester Telegram & Gazette

This month, Nativity School of Worcester will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its opening. Founded in 2003 by the College of the Holy Cross and the New England Province of Jesuits, Nativity has many ties to the campus community. Students volunteer through Student Programs for Urban Development (SPUD), numerous alumni have worked as teaching fellows and at the school, and the president and founding principal, Alex Zequeira, is an alumnus from the class of 1994.

The Telegram and Gazette story features three students who were members of the first sixth grade class ten years ago and are now college seniors. “For me, it was just finish high school and then go get a job. I never saw any opportunities for me to (become) a successful man," said one of those students, Juainer Beato-Lopez. "Everything has changed … There's not a lot of words to describe what Nativity did for me."
