Blog: Casey '15 Excited About Semester Abroad in East Africa

NAME Meghan Casey '15

HOMETOWN North Attleboro, Mass.

AREAS OF STUDY Biology major with premedical and Africana Studies concentrations

WHERE SHE’S STUDYING State University of Zanzibar in Zanzibar, Tanzania

WHY SHE CHOSE TANZANIA "While studying in Kenya last summer through Holy Cross, I developed a love for East Africa and have been itching to go back ever since. After becoming an Africana Studies concentrator and beginning an intensive study of Swahili this past year, the program just seemed like a perfect fit."

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO "I can’t wait to be immersed in a culture completely different from my own — I think it’ll really push my limits, which I love. Oh, and of course I’m looking forward to the fact that my host mom owns a fruit juice company!"

WHY SHE’S BLOGGING "East Africa isn’t necessarily the first location that pops into someone’s head when they think of study abroad. I’ve been asked countless times: 'Why would you ever study abroad there? What will you do there?' Because of that, I want to document my experience and share why East Africa is such an exciting and beautiful place, full of a thriving culture that has so much to offer and teach."
