As the sun started to rise on October 3, members of the College of the Holy Cross community were preparing for their live television debut on Fox 25 Morning News. Holy Cross was the first stop on the station’s College Tour, which kicked off today and will travel to five other colleges in New England this month.

Holy Cross faculty, staff and students highlighted the College’s key attributes including academic, spiritual, and social aspects of life on the Hill.  The most popular “commentator” on the Fox 25 Morning News Doug “VB” Goudie and Fox 25 Morning News reporter Elizabeth “Lilly” Hopkins bounced around the Hoval interviewing Holy Cross community members including an “Orientation” with  Margaret Freije, interim vice president for academic affairs and Dean of the College; “Extra Credit” with Charles “Chick” Weiss, director of Grants and Corporate and Foundation Giving, and chemistry major Jacob Bass ’14; “Admissions 101” with Ann McDermott, director of admissions; Jacqueline Peterson, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, discussed campus security; and Heisman Trophy candidate Gordie Lockbaum '88 was featured in the “Honor Roll” segment with Holy Cross football players.

In “A Delish Dish” segment Holy Cross chef Ed Rome took part in a live cooking demonstration making a spicy peanut noodle dish (a student even took a Sriracha shooter!)

Hopkins started off the morning directing the Holy Cross Band, and there were performance by the Rhythm Nation Steppaz, Fools on the Hill, and a scene from the upcoming theatre production “The London Merchant,” with an introduction from theatre professors Lynn Kremer and Scott Malia.

The Crusader mascot made numerous appearances during the broadcast and SPUD intern Victoria Aramini ’14 highlighted Student Program for Urban Development (SPUD), the largest student organization on campus, involving approximately 700 students who volunteer in the Worcester community.

Students who participated in the Holy Cross “Myths & Legends” contest received tickets to Canobie Lake Park’s annual “Screeemfest” ; and first-year roommates Gen Tsudaka ’17 and Alex Voitich ’17 were interviewed in Fox 25 Morning News reporter Brett Connolly’s campus tour.
