Playwright and director Lynn Kremer has not only been invited to present her work in a highly acclaimed international arts festival, but also to bring along a troupe of Holy Cross collaborators on her Indonesian adventure.
Kremer's multimedia dance drama, "Shackled Spirits," staged at last summer's 35th annual Bali Arts Festival, was a "tour de force" and "best performance of the year," according to The Jakarta Post. The show impressed critics and audiences alike, inspiring rapt attention where the cultural norm includes chatting, whispering and commentary during public events. Thirteen current or former Holy Cross students and two middle school students took part in this Southeast Asian premiere performed with professional Balinese dancer-actors and musicians and a traditional gamelan orchestra. Kremer's play, created with Balinese collaborators Made Wianta, I Made Bandem and Ni Luh Suasthi Bandem, debuted on the Holy Cross campus in 2012.
