Crusaders Ready To Lift Strong At Benching For Breast Cancer On Dec. 12

The seventh annual Benching for Breast Cancer fundraising event will take place on Friday, Dec. 12, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hart Center’s varsity weight room at the College of the Holy Cross. Registration will start at 5:15 p.m.

Benching for Breast Cancer is a weight lifting contest between teams of four students. All team members bench as much as they can, and their totals are mathematically compared with their body weights. There are prizes for most benched male and female teams. There are also prizes for best costume, most enthusiastic and most fundraised. Following the event the men’s basketball team will take on New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) at 7:05 p.m. and will be supporting breast cancer awareness. Donations will be collected before and during the game in the lobby.

Ann Zelesky, associate director of athletics who is now in her 26th year at Holy Cross, knows how influential and inspiring this event is. “As a six-year breast cancer survivor, the event means so much to me and to so many of the women who will be in attendance who are breast cancer survivors and also to the students and coaches who have been impacted by the terrible, dreaded disease of breast cancer,” said Zelesky. “The support that the student body exhibits at Benching for Breast Cancer is something that we carry throughout the year and it is an emotionally uplifting event, one that I am so proud to be a part of.”
