Important Winter Weather Notification

Monday, February 9, 2015 - 7:45 p.m. To: Holy Cross students, faculty, and staff

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the campus will reopen and return to regular operations.

Our website and various social media channels (Facebook, Twitter) will report campus updates and information on rescheduled events. As of Monday evening, campus roads, parking lots and the parking garage have been cleared and treated, and College Street is plowed down to the pavement. The side streets around campus may still be snow-covered, so please use caution when traveling to campus.

Parking information:

Staff and faculty: Please park in the Loyola and Hogan lots, or -- if space is available -- on the two top levels of the garage. Please know the parking garage is generally at capacity by 7:00 a.m. during a weather event. Please plan accordingly.

Governor's Announcement:

The Governor has declared a state of emergency for people living in Suffolk, Middlesex, Essex and Norfolk counties and has asked non-emergency Executive Branch employees to stay home.

Staff who are unable to come to work because of lingering severe weather conditions in their area should notify their supervisor as early as possible. Vacation time, floating holidays or personal time may be used as appropriate to receive pay for the “missed day” or a leave-without-pay day will be assessed. Sick time may not be used for this purpose.

Faculty who are unable to come to work due to lingering severe weather conditions should notify their students of canceled classes.

Many thanks to members of the College Community who worked hard to clean up the campus, keep it safe, and provide services to students.

Sunday, February 8, 2015 - 7:45 p.m. To: Members of the Campus Community

As you know, the Northeast is experiencing another severe snowstorm. Although Massachusetts Governor Baker has not declared a state of emergency, he issued a state-wide snow emergency on Sunday evening, urging businesses to close and for people to stay off the roads, if possible.

In our efforts to help keep the Holy Cross campus community safe during this time, the College’s Emergency Response Team has determined that the College will be closed on Monday, Feb. 9 for all non-essential employees; and all classes are canceled. If you are not sure about your status as an essential employee (grounds, designated trades personnel, designated Auxiliary Services, Dining Services, and the Public Safety Department) or non-essential employee, please check with your supervisor.

Parking information:

Students: Please park in the student lots, or only in the two lower levels of the garage. Staff and faculty: Please park in the Loyola and Hogan lots, or -- if space is available -- on the two top levels of the garage. Please know the parking garage is generally at capacity by 7:00 a.m. during a weather event. Please plan accordingly.

Health Services Information:

Health Services will be closed. Students with acute illness that cannot wait until Health Services opens on Tuesday, should contact the physician on call at 508-334-8830. Tell the answering service that you are a Holy Cross student and give them your cell phone number. A physician will return your call within an hour. For medical emergencies, call Public Safety at 508-793-2222. All students with scheduled appointments on Monday will be contacted and rescheduled.

The following campus locations will be open:

  • Kimball Dining Hall: normal hours
  • Hogan Campus Center: normal hours, please note we will have limited services.
  • Hart Center and Fieldhouse: normal hours
  • Libraries: normal hours in all libraries except for overnight hours (1 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.) in Dinand Library on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Please check the College’s website for updates on our local weather, campus operations, and cancelled events. You will also find updates posted on the Holy Cross Facebook page and Twitter account and on the College snow line (508) 793-3990.

Many thanks to members of the College Community who are working to prepare the campus, keep it safe, and provide services to students.
