Holy Cross to Usher in the Sweet Sounds of Spring with its Latest Concert Series

The music department at the College of the Holy Cross will present the following musical series throughout the spring 2015 semester. All Holy Cross events are free and open to the public. For additional information, please contact the music department events line at 508-793-3503.

Special performances to include the Feb. 22 performance of the Holy Cross Chamber Orchestra with the Worcester Symphonic Project at Mechanics Hall. The Worcester Symphonic Orchestra unites college students, area professionals, and qualified young instrumentalists to create an 80 piece orchestra. Rochelle Bard ’ 98 soprano returns to Holy Cross on March 19 and will perform some of her favorite arias with the Holy Cross Choirs and guest orchestra. Bard has won top prizes from prestigious national and international vocal competitions. She has appeared on the stages of Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Tampa, Sacramento Opera, Baltimore Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Tanglewood, performing in “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “Madama Butterfly,” and “The Merry Widow,” and in such roles as Violetta in “La Traviata,” the four heroines in “The Tales of Hoffmann,” and Gilda in “Rigoletto.” Holy Cross Chamber Players along with Marina Minkin, Israeli Harpsichordist; Mark Kroll, Harpsichord; and Carol Lieberman, violin, will perform works by Vittorio Rieti (1898-1994) on April 10 as part of the 200th tribute of his death. On April 13, Boston Musica Viva & Soloists of The Silk Road Ensemble who include: Gitanjali Mathur, soprano; Wu Tong, sheng; and Sandeep Das, tabla, will perform “Kala-Chakra” which is a new, commissioned work by Shirish Korde, Distinguished Professor of the Humanities in the music department. His latest work fuses Chinese, Indian, other cultures, and instruments with three international soloists.
