Students Organize 18th Annual Holy Cross Cares Day

Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff from the College of the Holy Cross will participate in the 18th annual Holy Cross Cares Day on Saturday, April 25. Service activities planned for the volunteers include painting, raking and picking up trash at schools, churches, and parks throughout the City of Worcester. This year’s event has been organized by The Holy Cross Cares Day Student Committee and the support of co-chairs Will Peters ’17 and Mary Carducci ’17.

In addition to the Worcester event more than 20 alumni groups have participated or will participate in Holy Cross Cares Day through volunteer efforts in their local communities throughout the months of April and May. This has been the sixth year that alumni volunteers will be putting the “mission in motion” in many sites across the U.S. The alumni activities that will be taking place include: tutoring children at inner-city schools, helping out at local soup kitchens, stocking shelves at a local food pantry, and clean-up of local parks and schools.

Tom Cadigan, associate director of alumni relations, says “Holy Cross Alumni Association, in partnership with its regional clubs across the country is thrilled with the anticipated participation in this year's day of service. We have the nation covered from Boston to the California bay area and from New York to Texas − and everywhere in between! We're thrilled with the outpouring of support from Crusaders all over the country.”

This year, Holy Cross volunteers will be divided between the following Worcester sites:

• Boys and Girls Club of Worcester (65 Tainter St.)

• Canal District - Middle River and McKeon Rd. (Quinsigamond Village)

• Crompton Park (South Worcester)

• Greater Worcester Land Trust

• Jeremiah’s Inn (1059 Main St.)

• Abby’s House (52 High St.)

• Cookson Park (College Hill)
