2015 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs” by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.  The College’s student affairs office  was applauded for the wide-ranging services it provides to students and for its ability to engage students actively on campus.  The award also acknowledges the atmosphere of inclusion and “an environment marked by freedom, mutual respect and civility” at the College.

The national survey that ranked Holy Cross was performed by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) and Diverse, the “purpose of this commissioned study was to examine the extent to which diversity and inclusion…permeates aspects of student affairs.”

Jacqueline Peterson, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, oversees the 12 departments in the student affairs division. “I am so delighted that Student Affairs has been recognized by Diverse. This is indeed an honor and a tribute to my outstanding colleagues,” says Peterson. “As I have spoken with student affairs colleagues over my 18 years at Holy Cross, one of the common themes about working at the College has been that the mission resonates with their personal values. Others have said that they have appreciated the support and interaction with colleagues and the feeling of community. And, still there are others who appreciated the College's unwavering commitment to excellence.  It is this combination of factors that truly makes the College, and student affairs, a most promising place to work.”

According to Diverse, Holy Cross student affairs is outstanding because “they engage students to become active participants in the life of the college; educate students through offering a multitude of co-curricular learning opportunities; and empower students to develop in the areas of leadership, citizenship and service to others.”  These descriptions back up the many extracurricular clubs, service organizations, and intramural sports that exist at Holy Cross, with more than 100 groups from Holy Cross for a Cure to the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) to the co-ed acapella group Fools on the Hill.

However, student affairs does not stop at just empowering their students.  The 77 full-time and 29 part-time staff members are also encouraged to engage in the community and develop intellectually, spiritually, and in service.
