Before the semester is well underway, students will be showcasing the broad gamut of work they took part in throughout the summer at the 22nd annual Summer Research Symposium and the eighth annual Internship Expo. The accomplishments of students from across class years and disciplines will fill up the Hogan Ballroom on Sept. 11 from 1 to 4 pm.
Summer Research Symposium
With a total of 104 students participating in cutting-edge research this summer, the research symposium will feature 77 poster presentations representing research conducted in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, arts, and economics conducted by students and faculty at Holy Cross, as well as 27 posters highlighting student research conducted off campus.
The symposium is a college-wide event that brings together students and faculty from all disciplines to celebrate their accomplishments and those of their friends and colleagues. The event is an opportunity for students to see the scope of research possibilities both on and off campus, and to initiate dialogue between students and faculty members about research opportunities available during the upcoming academic year and summer.
The summer research program is organized by Daniel Bitran, professor of psychology and the science coordinator; Daniel Klinghard, associate professor of political science and director of the Summer Research in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts; and Joshua Congdon-Hohman, assistant professor of economics and the director of the summer research program in economics.

Internship Expo
Alongside the summer researchers, more than 70 students will be sharing their internship experiences with the College community at the Internship Expo in a poster and discussion format.
Students will highlight various elements of their internship experiences, including skills they gained or sharpened, initiatives they spearheaded, and their reflections on how their internship impacted them. They will also be answering questions about their internship experiences in an informal and conversational atmosphere.
The expo will give students — those who have participated in internships and those interested — an opportunity to draw connections between classroom learning and practical work experience. Students, faculty, and staff across campus can learn more about the breadth of internship opportunities available during the summer and to talk personally with the students who have most recently participated in them.
The event is put on by the Center for Career Development, formerly known as Career Planning, located on the second floor of Hogan.
