Blog: Hoeschen ’17 Excited About One-on-One Tutorials During Study Abroad

NAME Hildie Hoeschen ’17

HOMETOWN St. Paul, Minnesota

AREAS OF STUDY Sociology major with premedical concentration

WHERE SHE’S STUDYING Mansfield College, University of Oxford in Oxford, England

WHY SHE CHOSE ENGLAND “I would have been thrilled to study anywhere in Europe, but what was most appealing about England was Oxford’s rigorous tutorial system. Engaging with some of the greatest minds in academia in one-on-one courses that focus specifically on my interests in medical sociology and healthcare is an opportunity I could not miss.”

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “Truly, I’m excited for everything! I’ve always loved travelling, but surprisingly, this will be the first time my wanderlust leads me ‘across the pond’ and into European territory. I look forward to the language and history of the region, the rigorous tutorials, and the ability to focus my studies on medical sociology. I think studying at Oxford will be a great opportunity to see the world in a whole new way while also getting the chance to study what I love.”

WHY SHE’S BLOGGING “I’ve been blogging ever since I moved East to Holy Cross, the purpose was to ease my grandmother’s worries with me being so far away from home (in that sense, I think she would say it’s been successful). But since then, I’ve completely fallen in love with chronicling my adventures and experiences away from home. Blogging abroad will allow me the same opportunity, as well as the ability to encourage more students to take their studies abroad, especially prehealth students.”
