Holy Cross Wins 2015 CASE Educational Fundraising Award

The College of the Holy Cross is the winner of a 2015 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Educational Fundraising Award. The award honors superior fundraising programs at CASE member institutions across the country. Holy Cross received an Overall Performance Award for 2015, which is awarded based on an annual survey of the analysis of three years of fundraising data.

Sue Cunningham, president of CASE, recognized Holy Cross’ performance “among the exceptional group of colleges, universities, and independent schools receiving a 2015 Educational Fundraising Award.”  In a letter to Holy Cross President Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., Cunningham remarks “Your institution has not only demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism and best practice in its fundraising efforts, it has contributed to the betterment of educational advancement worldwide.”

“This is a tremendous honor for the Holy Cross Advancement team, but more importantly, for our remarkably generous alumni, parents and friends who support the College and for the devoted group of volunteers who partner with us to ensure our collective success,” says Tracy Barlok, vice president of advancement at Holy Cross. “This CASE award reflects the loyalty and passion we all share for Holy Cross and our future.  And, it bodes well for continued momentum as we launch Become More: Campaign for the Future of Holy Cross.”

The “Become More” campaign is designed to advance and enhance all aspects of life at Holy Cross– mind, body, spirit and community. The College has raised more than $200 million toward the goal of $400 million.

Holy Cross has received three gifts at or above $25 million since the start of this campaign. Most recently, the largest single gift in College history of  $32.5 million dollars from alumnus John E. Luth  ’74 and his wife Dr. Joanne Chouinard-Luth, D.M.D, to improve indoor athletics and recreational facilities; and in 2013, Cornelius B. Prior, Jr. ’56, donated $25 million for the enhancement of the arts.

The campaign has seen great progress in several areas:

  • In May, the College broke ground on the Contemplative Center and has raised $18 million of the $22 million construction cost.  It is expected to be up and running in September of 2016.
  • The College has raised $30 million toward a new performing arts facility, and recently reviewed schematic drawings.
  • The campaign is not just about capital projects:  money raised will also go toward financial aid, faculty resources, internships, and many other programs and initiatives to enhance the distinctive Holy Cross experience for our students.
