Blog: Castillo '19 Embraces New Academic Opportunities at Holy Cross

NAME Emily Castillo ’19

HOMETOWN Lawrence, Mass.

STUDIES SHE’S CONSIDERING English major with a concentration in Asian Studies

WHY SHE CHOSE HOLY CROSS “When I visited Holy Cross for Visions weekend I immediately felt a sense of closeness and community on campus. It was a feeling that was incomparable to other college visits — at Holy Cross, I fit right in. The weekend provided me a sense of security and comfort, making my decision easy.”

ACTIVITIES Mulledy Hall House Council, Advocating Student Interest in Asia (A.S.I.A), club field hockey

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “I am excited to have the opportunity to study all of the things I couldn’t before. I can freely choose classes with subjects that I only dreamt of, including Chinese! I am also looking forward to meeting as many people as I can and further developing the sense of community that drew me to Holy Cross.”

WHY SHE’S BLOGGING “I have had a personal blog for over two years now, and I love the ability to reach out to a new audience and share my Holy Cross adventure. When I was a prospective student — and even during the few months waiting to move in — I would scroll through the numerous student blogs. The Holy Cross student blogs gave me a first-hand insight on life on The Hill. Now I look forward to doing that for others and making an impact on their decision to come here.”
