Blog: Keane ’17 Eager to Participate in Rich Academic and Cultural Traditions of Scotland

NAME Caroline Keane ’17

AREAS OF STUDY Political science and English double major

WHERE SHE’S STUDYING University of St. Andrews in Scotland

WHY SHE CHOSE SCOTLAND “Since applying to Holy Cross two years ago, I have been obsessed with the possibility of someday studying at St. Andrews — the same university where Will and Kate met. They had just been married, and to say that I was a fan of the royal couple would be an understatement. So, when it came time to apply to study abroad, I chose to apply to St. Andrews. Although my obsession with the royal couple has faded a little, my interest in St. Andrews has not. I ultimately made the decision to attend St. Andrews to be a part of a school so steeped in tradition in and out of the classroom.”

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “Being completely on my own in a foreign country, for this amazing opportunity to explore and travel Europe, and being a part of the St. Andrews community. While Scotland provides the opportunity to improve my golf game in the home of golf, partake in high teas and witness the Highland games, I will also be taught by some of this century’s most notable literary geniuses.”

WHY SHE’S BLOGGING “I am blogging because I was so unsure about studying abroad. Although I knew that this was something I wanted to do and I am excited to do, the whole process overwhelmed me. I hope that through my blog, I can share my experiences and offer clarity to anyone making this decision themselves.”
