Holy Cross Chapel Artist Series to Feature Two Highly-Acclaimed Organists



The College of the Holy Cross will present two organ concerts in its Chapel Artist Series this fall. Both concerts will be held in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel at 3 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

Organist Sylvie Mallet will perform on Sunday, Oct. 23. Mallet is a professor of organ at the Paris Conservatory, where she has been a faculty member since 1993. She is a specialist in 20th century French organ music and has recorded a large amount of music by the late, blind French organist of the Basilica Sainte Clotilde in Paris. Mallet has performed throughout Europe and in the United States. This is her second appearance in the Chapel Artist Series at the College.

Mallet will perform music by Jean-Franҫoise Dandrieu, J.S. Bach, Dieterich Buxtehude, Felix Mendelssohn, Erik Satie, Naji Hakim and Jean Langlais.

Organist Right Reverend Dom André Laberge OSB will perform on Sunday, Nov. 6. Laberge is the abbot of Saint Benedict Abbey in Québec, Canada. He is a highly-acclaimed concert organist and harpsichordist, and has a large discography of both organ and harpsichord recordings. Laberge studied both instruments in Canada and in Europe with Kenneth Gilbert, Bernard Lagacé, Luigi F. Tagliavini, Gustav Leonhardt and Xavier Darasse. He has performed in concert around the world and has recorded extensively for Canadian radio and television. This is his first concert appearance in the Chapel Artist Series at the College.

Laberge’s musical performance will include a varied program of baroque organ works on the Holy Cross Taylor & Boody organ.
