Four Holy Cross Professors to Discuss Presidential Election

WORCESTER, Mass. – An event titled β€œThe Most Important Election of Our Lifetime? A Faculty Round-table Discussion on the Implications of the 2008 Presidential Election,” will be held on Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. in the Rehm Library at the College of the Holy Cross. The event, sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Voter Registration/Education Committee, is free and open to the public.

The discussion will include Robert Bertin, professor and chair of the biology department; Donald Brand, professor of political science; Thomas Gottschang, professor of economics; and Frederick Murphy, Class of 1956 Professor and professor of religious studies.

The discussion is part of a concerted voter registration/education program at Holy Cross. A combined total of 776 students have registered to vote in voter registration drives that the College hosted this year and last (this number does not include students who registered on their own). Students at the College have also been involved in numerous efforts to increase awareness on and off campus, including phone banking, canvassing, and holding signs at the bottom of College Hill for both presidential candidates. A student debate and election night watch party are also planned.
