Spring is Blooming With Many Worcester Events

Five events you may want to add to your calendar

Clear skies and sunshine have finally made their way to Mount St. James, but this is not all Worcester has to offer this spring. In the midst of studying for exams and writing final papers, consider taking time to venture beyond the Hill and check out these upcoming community events. See for yourself why Worcester was recently ranked the ninth most livable city in the nation by Forbes.com.

1. Get a taste of the West. From May 1-3, the Professional Bull Riders plan to captivate audiences at the DCU Center. Dust off your Western boots and don that straw hat. Tickets begin at $20 and are on sale now.

2. Take in the outdoors and volunteer. On May 6, join the Mass Audubon Society in helping maintain the Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center and Wildlife Sanctuary on Massasoit Avenue. The cleanup begins at 10 a.m. and will last approximately two hours. If you’re a nature-lover, this event is for you.

3. Go to a theater near you. The Foothills Theatre Company is presenting their production of Doubt through May 10. For the $19 price of student seats, you can enjoy this 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner.

4. Enjoy some entertainment. Don’t have plans for Friday night? Head down to the Seven Hills Gourmet Bistro located in the Crowne Plaza for some quality comedy. Comedian Dick Doherty is guaranteed to make you laugh while you enjoy the bistro’s four-star dining. Dinner begins at 5 p.m.

5. Learn to “Zumba.” On Mondays and Fridays from 5 to 6 p.m., make your way to Quinsigamond Community College’s Yoga Room and enjoy a 60-minute workout done to Latin American rhythms. No experience? No worries. This workshop is geared toward beginners with little to no dance experience.
