Academics, Local Culture Draw Nault ’11 to Study in Scotland

Golfing, rugby, travel among plans

Nathan Nault ’11 wants to experience the world, which is why he’s spending the next academic year studying abroad.

“Through the Study Abroad program, you are presented with the opportunity of a lifetime,” he says. “You have an entire year to experience life outside the United States. Of course you have to study and attend class, but you also get to experience other cultures by living them, not just by reading about them.”

An anthropology major with an Asian Studies concentration, Nault, an avid golfer, will be studying at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

“The University of St. Andrews is one of the top schools in the UK, and it doesn’t hurt that it is located next to one of the oldest and most well known golf courses in the world, the links at St. Andrews,” he says. “I also chose Scotland because of its architecture and landscape.”

Aside from golfing, Nault, from Manchester, N.H., plans on taking in as much as possible. He’ll be sharing his adventures in a blog.

“I would love to try and play rugby. It is extremely popular over there, and since I’ve only played very briefly in the United States, I’m sure I would learn a lot by playing in Scotland. I also plan on traveling around the UK. Scotland’s location provides for easy access to the rest of the UK, and I hope I can get to Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, and other major cities in Europe over the course of the year.”
