Greg Mortenson, co-author of the New York Times best-seller Three Cups of Tea, gave a talk on “Peace Through Education” before a standing room only crowd in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel, took part in two seminars and dined with students when he visited Holy Cross last week.

Mortenson spoke as part of the 44th Hanify-Howland Memorial Lecture series, and the Second-Year Opportunities Program (or “2YO”) at Holy Cross. Three Cups of Tea was the required reading for the second-year class, as assigned by Ronald Jarret, dean of the Class of 2012.

Before the talk, Samantha Miko, co-chair of the Hanify-Howland Committee interviewed Mortenson for a video feature, which also includes comments from Uzra Azizi ’12, standing with Yalda Faqeerzada ’12. The two Afghan women are pursuing degrees at Holy Cross through a program called the Initiative to Educate Afghan Women. Read their story in an article that ran in the Boston Globe.
