Boston-Based Organist to play the First Holy Cross Chapel Artist Series of 2010

WORCESTER, Mass. – Heinrich Christensen, one of Boston’s finest organists, will perform Sunday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel at the College of the Holy Cross.  As part of the Holy Cross Chapel Artist Series, Christensen will perform Clavieruebung III  (“German Organ Mass”) of Johann Sebastian Bach.  The performance, which is handicap-accessible, is free and open to the public.

Christensen is the director of music at Boston’s downtown historic King’s Chapel and an avid performer of contemporary music. He has performed works by Daniel Pinkham, Thomas Oboe Lee, and Bruce Saylor, among others.

A native of Denmark, Christensen studied at the Royal Conservatory in Aarhus, Denmark with Anders Riber and also studied in Paris with Olivier Latry.  In 1998, he came to the U.S. to study with James David Christie, Distinguished Artist in Residence at Holy Cross. While under Christie’s directorship at the Boston Conservatory, he received the prestigious Artist Diploma in Organ Performance in 2000. Christensen has been a prizewinner in several international organ competitions and he has recorded extensively.

The 2009-10 season of the Chapel Artists’ Series marks the 25th anniversary of the installation and dedication of the Taylor & Boody organ in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel and Christie’s 25th year as Distinguished Artist in Residence at the College.
