The Holy Cross Theatre Department Presents the British Comedy Hay Fever

WORCESTER, Mass. – The department of theatre at the College of the Holy Cross presents Hay Fever  written by Noel Coward in 1924 and directed by Scott Malia, a visiting assistant professor. The play will be performed November 4-6 and 11-13 at 8 p.m. in Fenwick Theatre (located on the second floor of O’Kane Hall). Tickets are $7 for members of the Holy Cross community and $10 for the general public. Group rates are available.

“I chose Hay Fever because it's a very funny, high comedy and I felt it would be an exciting challenge for the students,” says Malia.  “Even though the play was written more than 80 years ago, its characters are still very relevant today.”

Hay Fever, is a comedy of bad manners:  The story unfolds at the country retreat of the highly unconventional Bliss family.  Judith, the family's matriarch, is a past-her-prime stage actress, while her husband, David, is a temperamental novelist.  The bohemian quartet is completed by their son, Simon, and daughter, Sorel.  Unbeknownst to the rest of the family, each has invited a guest to stay for the weekend.  The guests arrive and are subjected to the Bliss's endless bickering and game-playing.  As the family drama plays out, the bewildered guests struggle to escape with their sanity.

The cast includes:  Kate Sheridan ‘12, Molly Bier ‘11, Danny Goodman ‘11, Eric McGowan ‘11, Bobby Sevenich ‘12, Catherine Mikula ‘14, Shannon Locascio ‘14, Patrick Simas ‘14, and Christine Freije ‘13.
