A new event celebrating the rich faith traditions at Holy Cross was met with great interest on the afternoon of Jan. 24, the day that spring semester classes started.
Marybeth Kearns-Barrett, director of the Chaplains' Office, expected a small group to attend the first Campuswide Multifaith Prayer in Mary Chapel. Instead, more than 300 students, faculty and staff took part.
"We were delighted with the response to the Community Prayer and we plan to make it an annual tradition," she says. "Having received such an enthusiastic response from a wide cross section of the Holy Cross community, we feel the prayer responded to a desire on campus to find ways to pray and celebrate together the various faith traditions that make up Holy Cross today."
The prayer was led by Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., president, and Virginia Coakley, assistant chaplain and director of Protestant and ALANA (African-American, Latin American, Asian-American, and Native American heritage) ministry. Members of the Holy Cross community representing their respective faiths read and sang prayers from their traditions.
