'Santorum not only conservative nauseated by JFK 1960 speech; view shared by many on right'

Associated Press

In an Associated Press article, Mathew Schmalz, professor of religious studies at the College of the Holy Cross, comments on Republican candidate Rick Santorum’s criticism of John F. Kennedy’s famous speech on religion. In this legendary speech, Kennedy spoke of the necessity for the secularization of religion, in which Santorum disagrees.

“When Santorum talks about the Kennedy speech that way, he’s obviously making a political point about religion and politics, but he’s also making a point about Catholic identity,” Schmalz observed. “Santorum is part of a very vocal constituency among Catholics, but I would say he’s still in the minority.”

The article ran in more than 200 outlets across the country including the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, US News & World Report, CNBC.com, and the Huffington Post.
