Blog: Spanish Major Riley '14 Eager to Explore Argentina in Year Abroad

NAME Katie Riley '14

HOMETOWN Alameda, Calif.

AREAS OF STUDY Political science and Spanish double major

WHERE SHE’S STUDYING University of El Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina

WHY SHE CHOSE ARGENTINA "I wanted to focus on practicing my Spanish language skills and I wanted to live in a big city. Being in Buenos Aires allows me to live in what looks like a big European city like Paris or Madrid, but it is in South America, a place I had never visited and had never thought of traveling to. Argentina also has a rich and complicated political history, which I am excited to learn more about through my classes and conversations with locals."

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO "Exploring Buenos Aires and traveling around Argentina. I have heard the most wonderful things about the city and I can’t wait to get there to try their famous beef and watch a tango show."

WHY SHE'S BLOGGING "The Argentina program is new at Holy Cross and so I want to share this experience with prospective study abroad students, especially those who want to study in a Spanish-speaking country. I also want to have this as a record of my adventures here in South America so that my family and friends back home can follow what I am doing this year."
