Blog: Chinese Major Retallick ’14 to Spend Year Studying in Beijing

NAME Andrew Retallick '14

HOMETOWN West Hartford, Conn. AREAS OF STUDY Chinese major

WHERE HE’S STUDYING Beijing Institute of Education in Beijing

WHY HE CHOSE CHINA "I chose to study abroad in China not only to achieve fluency in Mandarin Chinese, but also to obtain a solid understanding of Chinese mannerisms, customs and ways of life."

WHAT HE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO "Meeting and getting to know people from a completely different background and culture and learning from them to appreciate their view of the world. Also, while Chinese New Year can be a good time in my hometown, I have to believe that it’s slightly more exciting with the Great Wall in the background!" WHY HE’S BLOGGING "I want to give students (and anyone else interested) a snapshot of what studying and living in modern China is like. I also want to report on all that 21st century China has to offer (I will do my best to try everything!). In addition, I want to have this blog to keep a record of my experiences abroad."
