Anthropology Course Spotlighted in Alumni Magazine

Tracing the historical origins of contemporary consumer society, Fashion and Consumption with Professor Ann Marie Leshkowich examines how fashion and consumption reflect and shape individual identities and global economic, political and cultural developments. Students explore theoretical and ethnographic approaches to the rise of consumer societies; the relation of consumption practices to culture, gender, ethnicity and class; and the forms of production that make global consumption possible-as well as reflect on their own practices, through analysis of a personal dress or consumption diary.
