Quantasia Islam ’15, who is currently participating in the Washington Semester Program at the College of the Holy Cross, recently co-published an article in emPower Magazine titled, “Coca-Cola Embraces Diversity, Not All Of U.S. Ready To Do The Same,” where she addressed the controversial Coke commercial that aired during the Superbowl.

“Coke seems to be embracing this increasing diversity in the commercial by flashing faces of people, many of whom belong to racial and ethnic minority groups, and connects them to the U.S. in a way that both markets a product and aims to teach a simple, but valuable lesson: America is changing and the change is beautiful,” she wrote.

Islam, a political science major with an education minor, is interning at the Center for American Progress and working specifically for the Progress 2050 team, a project under the Domestic Policy Team.  She has helped with research regarding chronic absenteeism in American public schools, women of color and entrepreneurship, and the disadvantages of not attending preschool, particularly in the case of students of color.
