The College of the Holy Cross will host a panel on education policy with six alumni who work in the field on Wed., April 9 at 6 p.m. in Rehm Library, Smith Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
“Many of our students wish to affect change through work in educational policy,” explains Jack Schneider, assistant professor of education and organizer of the panel. “But they aren't quite sure what that work looks like. Nor are they sure how a career in the field takes shape. Perhaps most importantly, they have lots of questions about the kind of work that really makes a difference.”
The panel will focus on three main topics. “The first is educational policy as a field. What is the nature of the work like in all its dimensions? The second topic is educational policy as a vocational calling. How does one enter the field? And finally, we will talk about leverage. Where should we be channeling our efforts in education?” explains Schneider.

- Simon Hess ’93, chief program officer at Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE)
- Kaitlin Padgett ’07, education pioneer fellow at the New York City Department of Education
- Kathleen Porter-Magee ’97, senior advisor for College Board and fellow at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute
