The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery at the College of the Holy Cross will present the exhibition “As Far As the Eye Can See” in collaboration with Seven Hills Family Services from May 3 – August 16, 2014 in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation Resource Gallery. An opening reception will be held Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The exhibition will feature artwork by artists with disabilities living in Central Massachusetts, many of whom receive supports through Seven Hills Foundation’s Family Support Centers, as well as other programs in the area. Robert Raslavsky, community connector for Seven Hills Family Services, and Roger Hankins, director of the Cantor Art Gallery, began planning the exhibition early in January.
“We are really looking to encourage individuals with disabilities who are making art by giving them an opportunity to display their work at Holy Cross, where students, faculty and staff, as well as the Worcester community will have the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate their efforts,” explains Hankins. Raslavsky adds that Seven Hills Family Services has sponsored several exhibitions recently in community settings, with the goal of “building partnerships that strengthen inclusive connections.”
Seven Hills Foundation’s Family Services community connectors work to identify ways for organizations and groups to include people with disabilities and provide meaningful opportunities of their choice.
The Cantor Art Gallery is committed to outreach in the community as well, according to Hankins, who previously collaborated with Seven Hills on an exhibition of Saori weavings by individuals participating in day support programs, and previously, in 2012, presented “Create,” a travelling exhibition of artwork by individuals with disabilities organized by the University of California Berkeley Art Museum and curated by Lawrence Riggs and Matthew Higgs.
The work of over 20 artists will be seen in “As Far As the Eye Can See,” which includes collage, drawing, painting, photography and sculpture. The exuberant and expressive use of color, form and line captures the creative talents of these artists who enjoy making art on their own as well as in supported programs.
The exhibition can be seen during business hours through August 16.

Founded in 1983 through the generosity of Iris & B. Gerald Cantor, the Cantor Art Gallery serves both as a venue for a changing series of historical and contemporary public exhibitions, as well as a vital resource for Holy Cross faculty and students, linking exhibitions to the broader liberal arts curriculum.
