‘Cancer experience leads Westboro man to establish Skating for Hope at Holy Cross’

Worcester Telegram & Gazette

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette recently featured Skating for Hope, a 24-hour, non-stop fundraiser taking place at the College of the Holy Cross from Friday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. to Saturday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. For the fourth year in a row, Skating for Hope will be raising funds for Hope Lodge of Worcester, which provides housing and support for those coming to Massachusetts for cancer treatments, as well as other organizations. According to the article, the event will take place in the Hart center and feature hockey games, open skating, and raffles.

“[Skating for Hope] is my way of fighting cancer and doing my favorite thing at the same time,” said Dave McGrath, the man behind the event and cancer survivor in an interview at the Hart Center. McGrath, whose father graduated from Holy Cross, plans to remain on the ice for the duration of the event. In the article, he notes that the event is supported by both the city, which will provide the rental skates, and Holy Cross, which has donated the use of the hockey rink.
