A recent article in the Telegram & Gazette featured Holy Cross alumnus Che Anderson ’11, his growing art collection, and his determination to expand Worcester’s public art offerings to promote the city and its culture. Anderson is currently working as a project manager and staff assistant to City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr.
The New York native is an avid collector of works from the “street art” genre and travels back to New York City whenever he can to collect rare and limited edition prints to add to his collection. He has work from prominent graffiti artist Jordan Nickel, who goes by the name POSE, and up and coming artists such as John Paul O’Grodnick, an industrial street artist, and Iena Cruz, a Brooklyn based artist from Italy. A collaboration between Russell King and Matt Siren was a notable score for Che; the brightly colored contemporary work is only one of 17 prints.
Anderson’s love of modern art has been a great asset to his work. He is currently working with the city’s Public Art Working Group, chaired by Erin I. Williams, Worcester’s cultural development officer and director of the Worcester Cultural Coalition, to ensure that artists from the Worcester area, across the country, and around the world have the ability to showcase their art to the Worcester community.
“We want to make the process easier for people to do public art,” Anderson said. “I think there definitely is an opportunity for us in the city to sort of cultivate the energy that is out there, and use it in a constructive and productive manner.”
