Worcester Bravehearts Set to Start Season at Home This Friday

Daniel Barlok ’19 talks to the Telegram & Gazette about playing on Fitton Field this summer

The Worcester Bravehearts will return to Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Friday, June 3 at 7:05 p.m. to play against the Leominster-based Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. They will officially kickoff the new season in Portsmouth, N.H., Thursday night, where they will play against the Seacoast Mavericks.

This is the third year of the partnership between Holy Cross, the city of Worcester, the Futures League, and local business owner John W.S. Creedon Jr., to keep summer baseball on Fitton Field. The Bravehearts have won the FCBL Championship series for the last two years.

The Bravehearts, members of the 10-team Futures Collegiate Baseball League, added two Holy Cross baseball players to their roster for the 2016 season: Daniel Barlok ’19 and Patrick McGowan ’19, both right-handed pitchers.

In a recent article in the Telegram & Gazette, Barlok says he’s looking forward to playing for the team, and sticking to the mound on Fitton Field. “It’s going to be a great opportunity to not only get better as a baseball player, but also to have a fun summer and experience playing in front of a big crowd at my home stadium,” Barlok told the Telegram & Gazette.

Greg DiCenzo, Holy Cross head baseball coach, said Barlok has “only begun to tap into his vast reservoir of talent.”

“He pitched really big innings for us, and he pitched really big innings for us late in the year because of the development that occurred in the short amount of time he’s been on campus,” DiCenzo told the Telegram & Gazette. “He really, again, honed in on trying to become the best pitcher he could be.”
