European Student-Athletes Chase Dreams of Playing Soccer at Holy Cross

As a junior in high school, Arno Rupp ’18 decided he wanted to continue his education and chase his dream of playing soccer in college, according to an article by GoHolyCross.com. After lots of research on numerous schools, Rupp, who is from Wolfsberg, Austria, came to College of the Holy Cross and joined the men’s soccer team.

“I had no clue about anything,” said Rupp, who plays forward on the team and is double majoring in economics and mathematics. “There was no one I could ask for help. I had no clue about the common application or writing essays. It was overwhelming, but with my parents’ support, it definitely paid off. Holy Cross did a great job pursuing me as a prospective player, and I’m glad it worked out. I’m definitely glad I decided to come here.”

While playing soccer for the College, Rupp befriended Andela Seslija ’18, who plays midfielder for Holy Cross’ women’s soccer team. Seslija, who has not yet declared a major but is leaning towards studying sociology, is from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has been a member of the Bosnian women’s national soccer team since she was 16 years old, and was also recruited to Holy Cross.
