Holy Cross Visual Arts Professor Receives MCC Fellowship Funding

Cristi Rinklin, associate professor of visual arts at the College of the Holy Cross, recently received a $12,000 fellowship grant in painting from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). Rinklin is one of six fellows who received this grant in painting.

MCC is a state agency that grants artist fellowships to “recognize exceptional work by Massachusetts artists across a range of disciplines.” In order to receive a grant, applicants must endure a rigorous application process. Artists submit samples of their most recent work, in any medium, where a jury of arts professionals and local curators critique the pieces.

Once a decision is made, grants are awarded based on the artist’s excellence in their field and quality of their work, and the money can be used in any way the artist chooses. “As I enter into my sabbatical year, my focus is on developing a new series of paintings that examine the contemporary condition of facing a vulnerable environment and an uncertain future,” said Rinklin.
