‘College Business Programs Look to the Liberal Arts Model’

Business may be the most popular major in the country, but employers complain that recent college graduates do not possess critical thinking and communication skills — skills that a recent NPR article notes can be developed through liberal arts courses.

Kendy Hess, the Brake-Smith Associate Professor in Social Philosophy and Ethics in the philosophy department at the College of the Holy Cross, offers insight into the benefits found when business and a liberal arts education intersect.

“At a time when all colleges are under pressure to launch their graduates into productive careers, business has a lot to offer the liberal arts, too,” Hess shared with NPR. “At the very least, internships and experiences and a chance to take all of this knowledge and information and understanding and dialogue, and try to use it.”
