Blog: Lambrecht ’19 Eager to Get a Global Perspective During Year Abroad in Ireland, Tanzania

NAME Izzi Lambrecht ’19

HOMETOWN Weston, Mass.

AREAS OF STUDY Self-designed health studies major

WHERE SHE’S STUDYING University College of Cork in Cork, Ireland and School for Field Studies in Rhotia, Tanzania

DURATION Full academic year: Ireland (fall), Tanzania (spring)

WHY SHE CHOSE NAME OF COUNTRY “As a health studies major, I have studied the race, class and gender norms that enable health crises in the United States. I am excited to contextualize what I have learned on The Hill in a more global way by immersing myself in two completely different communities. I cannot wait to find out where my studies and experiences with new people in new places take me.”

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “The immersion experience of study abroad. Although the whole experience will be a step out of my comfort zone — building relationships with local people, trying new foods, being engaged with new local governments and living in completely different climates — it all sounds so exciting to me.”

WHY SHE’S BLOGGING “I am confident that my study abroad experience will complement my three years at Holy Cross very well, and am excited to reflect and share with everyone else through this blog. Additionally, I hope that incoming students truly utilize all of the study abroad blogs. Study abroad is an exceptional opportunity, and am hopeful that my blog will positively reflect this and prompt students to further consider the opportunity.”
