After graduation, young Holy Cross alumni take different paths, many of them deciding to participate in a year of service.

In a blog post published on Medium, AnnMaura Connolly ’86, the chief strategy officer and executive vice president of City Year, Inc., talks about her personal decision to join the Jesuit Volunteer Corps after graduating from Holy Cross. For Connolly, the experience a young person gets through a year of service is unmatched by any other, and their service is central to the improvement of our nation as a whole.

“National service prepares young people for work by giving them skills and experience, and helps them develop civic character,” Connolly writes. “It connects people of diverse backgrounds, giving them the chance to get to know each other and work together for the common good.”

Connolly was the recipient of the Sanctae Crucis Award in 2016. The Sanctae Crucis Award is the highest non-degree recognition bestowed by the College upon graduates who continue to live out the Holy Cross mission well after graduation.
