Holy Cross Chapel Artist Series to Showcase Two World-Renowned Organists



The College of the Holy Cross will present two organ concerts in its Chapel Artist Series this fall. Both concerts will be held in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel at 3 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

Organist Matteo Imbruno will perform on Sunday, Oct. 22. Ibruno is a native of Italy and the organist of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In addition, he is the organist-in-residence at the Hermitage Museum of Amsterdam and serves as artistic director of the Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck International Organ Competition in Amsterdam and the Academy of Italian Organ Music in Pistoia, Italy. He has made many CDs on historic organs in the Netherland and in Italy and he has given master classes and lectures on historic organs and Dutch and Italian organ music throughout Europe, Asia and both North and South America. He has performed on some of the most prestigious organ series in the world. This is Imbruno's first visit to College of the Holy Cross.

Imbruno will perform works by Nicolaus Bruhns, Pablo Bruna, Antonio Vivaldi, J. S. Bach and Marin Marais.

Organist Vincent Boucher will perform on Sunday, Nov. 5. Boucher serves as the organist of the Oratoire Saint-Joseph in Montreal, Canada. An active concert artist, he performs over 50 concerts a year and has appeared throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He was awarded first prize in the 2000 John Robb Organ Competition. Mr. Boucher was awarded the 2002 Prix d'Europe by the Canadian Academy of Music, the first organist to be given this prestigious award since 1966. He has made over 15 CD recordings and has won numerous prizes; he is currently recording the complete organ works of the mystique Catholic French composer, Charles Tournemire. This is Boucher's first visit to College of the Holy Cross.

Boucher’s musical performance will include a varied program of works by G. F. Handel, Dieterich Buxtehude, Domenico Scarlatti and J. S. Bach.
