Shirley Konneh, Ph.D., MBA, assistant director in the Center for Career Development at Holy Cross, was recently named to Worcester Business Journal's 2019 “40 Under Forty” list.

The list, which is published annually, highlights local young professionals who have made a significant impact on their workplace and community before reaching age 40. Since Worcester Business Journal launched the annual program in 2000, more than 800 young professionals have earned this recognition.

Konneh, who's role at Holy Cross includes building a pipeline for students, especially those of color, to live and work in the city, ultimately strives to become a college president or even secretary of education. She tells the Worcester Business Journal, "I found my purpose in life is to empower students. I want to leave a legacy and be the role model for youth of color I wish I had when I was young."

When she’s not on the Hill, Konneh serves on the board for the local YWCA and the Girl Scouts, chaired the membership board for the NAACP, and served on the United Way leadership council.

Konneh will be honored at a ceremony on Sept. 18.
