Jennifer Martinez Paz '27 spent her summer vacation studying plants' puncture-based defense systems: the thorns, spines and prickers, which serve as a deterrent to predators. Paz's research was made possible through the Weiss Summer Research program, an eight-week experiential learning opportunity in which students work on projects of their devising or assist faculty in their research. Paz worked with Stephanie Crofts, assistant professor of biology, and is supported by the George I. Alden Trust through the George I. Alden Trust Summer Student Research Fund.
