Dame Gillian Weir to Perform at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Dame Gillian Weir, one of the world's foremost concert organists, will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's "Clavier-Uebung III" on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. in the St. Joseph Memorial Chapel at Holy Cross.  The performance, which is dedicated to the memory of her late husband, the distinguished American organbuilder, Lawrence I. Phelps, is free and open to the public.

Weir, who was recently named by Classic CD as one of "The 100 Greatest Players of the Century," has performed throughout North America, Europe, the Far East and Australia.  The recipient of many awards, she was named a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1996, the first organist to win this award.  Previously, she was awarded a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honors in 1989.

Her extensive recordings include the 7-CD set, Complete Messiaen Organ Works, King of Instruments (a solo disc featuring six organs from the BBC television series) and Organ Music of Cesar Franck.
