Funk/Soul Band "Averi" to Perform at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Funk/soul band "Averi" will give a concert at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, in Crossroads, located in the Hogan Campus Center. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the concert is free and open to the public.

Chad Perrone, Matt Lydon, Mike Currier and Mike Sanders make up the band that originated at Suffolk University in Boston. The band was first named "Shug’ Daddy" in 1997 when Currier and Lydon were looking to start a new funk/soul group. At Fall Fest '97, a talent showcase held at Suffolk, the band debuted with its new, inventive sounds. Since then, the band's structure has changed a bit, with Perrone and Sanders entering the mix. Major acts from which the band draws inspiration include Live, Guster, Radiohead and the Roots.

Averi currently can be heard live on various university radio stations and seen playing all over New England. They are also in the process of compiling a major album. The CD is expected to draw audiences from all across the musical spectrum, bringing together jazz, hip-hop, funk and pop into one unique and new sound.
