Hiatt was a close friend of Holy Cross' Rev. John E. Brooks, S.J., and knew him for more than 30 years. Read the address delivered by Fr. Brooks at the Isaiah Thomas Award Dinner in 1985, honoring Jacob Hiatt. Also, read Fr. Brooks' remarks at Hiatt's funeral.

In 1973, Hiatt received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Holy Cross.
