Wyclef Jean to Perform at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean will play this year's Spring Weekend Concert at Holy Cross on Monday, April 29. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Hart Center; doors open at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for Holy Cross students (limit two tickets per student), $15 for students in the Worcester Consortium and $18 for the general public. They are available at the Holy Cross Bookstore and select Strawberries Music and Video Stores.

The son of a minister, Wyclef Jean was born in Haiti and moved to New York at age nine to live with relatives. During his teenage years, Jean began rapping and playing guitar with his cousin Prakazrel "Pras" Michel as the group, Tranzlater Crew. With the addition of singer Lauryn Hill in the early 1990s, Jean's band renamed themselves to The Fugees.

After several successful albums fronting The Fugees, Jean released his first solo album, "The Carnival," featuring his band the Refugee All Stars, in July of 1997. His hit single, "We Trying to Stay Alive," brought the album to the Top 20 and it went gold. His much-anticipated follow-up, "Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book," followed in mid-2000. Jean's songs include "Guantanamera," "Gone Till November" and "911."

This concert is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, Black Student Union, Student Government Association and Student Programs & Leadership Development.
