WORCESTER, Mass. – On Monday, September 23 from 4:30-5:30 p.m., Rev. Francis X. Clooney, S.J. will give a lecture titled "Hindu Goddesses and Mary the Mother of God" at the Rehm Library in Smith Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Fr. Clooney, professor of comparative theology at Boston College, is one of the world's leading Catholic theologians on issues of interreligious dialogue. His most recent book is titled Hindu Wisdom for all God's Children (Orbis, 1998).

Fr. Clooney's lecture will consider the theological implications of comparing Catholic Mariology with Hindu conceptions of the divine as feminine.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the Deitchman Family Lectures in Religion and Modernity, the Asian Studies program, and the Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture.
