Holy Cross Community to Participate in "One Day's Pay" - A Day of Service in Memory of Sept. 11

WORCESTER, Mass. – On the second anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America, Holy Cross students, faculty and administrators will devote a portion of their day to help the South Worcester and College Hill Communities in a national program called "One Day's Pay."

"One Day's Pay" is a non-profit organization, working in partnership with "The Coalition of 9/11 Families," the "Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network," "Youth Service America," "Citizen Corps," and other leading groups to establish Sept. 11 as a national day of voluntary service, charity and compassion – an initiative honoring the victims of the terrorists attacks on America.

Holy Cross volunteers will aid area service sites by helping with painting, gardening, general yard work and cleaning. Sites include:

* Aldersgate United Methodist Church * Canterbury Street School * City of Worcester - Parks, Recreation and Cemetery (Cookson Park) * Dismas House * Goddard School of Science & Technology * Jeremiah's Inn * Sacred Heart Church * South Worcester Neighborhood Center * St. Matthew's Parish

Monetary donations will be made in the names of the organizations listed above for those who are not able to volunteer their time.

The Sept. 11 day of voluntary service will conclude with a brief memorial service conducted by Fr. McFarland at Memorial Plaza (located in the courtyard behind Smith Hall.) The service will begin at 6:00 p.m. (Memorial plaza is a permanent campus memorial in remembrance of Holy Cross' seven lost alumni/ae killed in the terrorists attacks.)
