Holy Cross Responds to Hurricane Devastation

Update on College's Hurricane Katrina relief effort

"Stand By You" (or, as T-shirts read:  Stand Bayou) is a coordinated show of financial, physical, and spiritual support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This effort is being organized by the Chaplains’ Office. In addition to remembering our sisters and brothers who are homeless, ill, hungry, and frightened, we are concerned for members of our community here on campus whose families are from the devastated region; our alumni/ae from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama; and the new members of the community — those visiting students arriving from Loyola University New Orleans.

As of September 16, more than $8,000 has been raised through collections from Sunday liturgies, contribution sites at the Homecoming football game (where more than $3,600 was collected), and other contribution sites located throughout campus.

Stand Bayou T-shirts are now on sale.

Prayer vigils and services continue at Mary Chapel, and online at http://www.makingthepartswhole.com/lightacandle.cfm

Many other initiatives are being developed, including plans to participate in trips to help rebuild and otherwise physically assist in affected areas.

Students, staff, and alumni interested in finding out how they can help on these and other initiatives should contact the Chaplains’ Office at 508-793-2448 or by email kmcelane@holycross.edu.
