Holy Cross Fall 2005 American Sign Language and Deaf Studies Program Calendar of Events

WORCESTER, Mass. – The American Sign Language and Deaf Studies Program announces its Calendar of Events for the 2005 fall semester. Unless otherwise stated, all events are free and open to the public. The following events take place on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross. Deaf Awareness Week (Sept. 19 - 22) Sept. 19, 3 - 5 p.m. Hogan Campus Center, Room 320 Dingo, similar to bingo, with Professor Dennise Scott.

Sept. 20, 6 p.m. Kimball Dining Hall Silent dinner with Ying Li, ASL instructor at Holy Cross, and her husband Guillermo Carvajal.

Sept. 21, Noon - 2 p.m. or 6 - 8 p.m. Hogan Campus Center, Suite A "It’s a Deaf Deaf World" interactive workshop. There will be no spoken language used at the workshop so that hearing people can communicate with the deaf using a variety of signing methods. Pre-registration required.

Sept. 22, 10 p.m. McCooey Chapel in St. Joseph Chapel Celebrate Mass in ASL with Rev. Joe Bruce.

Oct. 21, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Hogan Campus Center, Suite A "Disabilities 101" workshop. Pre-registration required.

Oct. 25, 7 p.m. Hogan Campus Center, Room 406 "Reflections of a Semester at Gallaudet" - Holy Cross senior Casey Spencer will talk about her semester away at the only liberal arts college for Deaf Studies.

Nov. 1, 6 p.m. Kimball Dining Hall Silent dinner with Professor Dennise Scott in ASL.

Nov. 1, 7 p.m. Stein Hall, Room TBA Community-based learning presentations. Hear about involvement in the Deaf community through personal experience. Students in the Intermediate ASL classes will present in spoken English. ASL interpreter provided.

Nov. 10, 10 p.m. McCooey Chapel in St. Joseph Chapel Celebrate Mass in ASL with Rev. Joe Bruce.

Nov. 30, 6 p.m. Kimball Dining Hall Silent dinner with Professor Dennise Scott in ASL.

Nov. 30, 7 p.m. Stein Hall, Room TBA Community-based learning presentations. Come see what the advanced ASL students have learned through their involvement in CBL projects. Presented in ASL.

Dec. 8, 10 p.m. Mary Chapel Celebrate Mass with Rev. Joe Bruce. Interpreted.

Oct. 21 - 23, Time TBA Holiday Inn, 500 Lincoln St., Worcester Massachusetts State Association of the Deaf and the Massachusetts Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf State Convention "Working Together for a Better Future"
