'Radio Free Worcester: How local radio is adapting to changes in the analog landscape'

Worcester Mag

In a Worcester Mag article about the City’s radio history and current culture, WCHC-88.1, the radio station at the College of the Holy Cross, is featured for providing an alternative source to the FM dial.

Jesse Anderson, director of audio-visual services/ITS at the College, and faculty adviser to campus radio station, told the reporter that “Worcester's radio landscape is unique because of all the nonprofit broadcasts, which include college, community (like WCUW), religious and nonprofit commercial (WICN).”

Peter McStravick ’13, deejay and current external music director, who will take over as station manager next year, spoke about the advantage of alternative radio to “break” new bands. The article states, “Two recent examples, he says would be Foster the People and Mumford and Sons, two bands that relied on heavy alternative station airplay when they first released their records and have now waded into mainstream territory.”
